The Antichrist Will Be a Nimrod

Genesis 10 lists the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japeth, the three sons of Noah. Genesis 10:32 says, "These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood." However, this didn't occur immediately after the flood; for it wasn't until they increased in sufficient numbers that they formed distinct nations.
After the flood, God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth" (Genesis 9:1). This was a command from God for humans to reproduce and fill the entire earth, not just live in one specific area. However, in Genesis 11:2, we see the people once again disobeying God by staying in one place—the land of Shinar (later called Mesopotamia and then Iraq).
The arrogance and pride of the people of Earth at this time is seen in Genesis 11. "And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4). The next verse says that the LORD (or Yahweh) came down from heaven to see the city and the tower.
"And the LORD said, Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech" (Genesis 11:6-7). Observe the use of the plural form 'us' in reference to the Trinity of God (Elohim) in Genesis 11:7. At least two of the three Persons of God descended to the Earth to scatter (divide) the people by causing the people to speak in different languages.
It is probable that the Father sent the Son and the Holy Spirit to accomplish His will in this matter. This is logical as the pre-incarnate Son's heavenly name is the Word (John 1:1,14), and the Holy Spirit is the One who caused Jesus' disciples to speak in different languages during Pentecost (aka Shavuot), fifty days after Jesus' resurrection. At Babel, the Holy Spirit caused the people to speak in different languages so the different clans couldn't understand one another. However, at Jerusalem (Pentecost 33 AD), the Holy Spirit enabled the disciples to speak in different languages so the Jews (and Gentiles) from different nations could understand them in their own language. That is quite a paradigm shift!
Ever since the sons of Noah began the process of repopulating the planet after the great flood, their descendants spoke only one language (some scholars believe it to be Hebrew), per Genesis 11:1. God accomplished His will of scattering the different clans throughout the earth by causing them to speak in different languages, so they couldn't understand one another. To the ones trying to understand those speaking in a different language, it just sounded like 'babel' or nonsense.
"So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth" (Genesis 11:8-9). The will of God will always be accomplished, one way or the other.
Peleg was the fifteenth generation from Adam (inclusive reckoning - Adam being the first). He was the great, great-grandson of Shem. His name is first mentioned in Genesis 10:25, "And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan." Peleg's name in Hebrew means 'division.' Peleg was aptly named, as it is believed by most scholars that Genesis 10:25 refers to the beginning of the division of nations when God "scattered the people abroad from there upon the face of all the earth" (per Genesis 11:8).
According to Scripture and my chronology of mankind (A Chronology of Mankind – 6000 Years of History & Jesus' Family Tree: By Randy Nettles - Rapture Ready), the flood occurred 1656 years from the creation of Adam (Adam was created in 3960 BC). It lasted for about a year, so the inhabitants of the ark exited onto dry ground in 1657 AM (Anno Mundi) or 2303 BC. Peleg was born in 2202 BC and died in 1963 BC at the age of 239. Incidentally, Noah (the 10th from Adam) died in 1954 BC, and Abraham (the 20th from Adam) was born in 1951 BC. These dates are reckoned from the Masoretic Text version of the Hebrew Torah.
It is thought that the Babel incident and subsequent dispersion of multiple people groups from the land of Shinar occurred approximately 300-340 years after the flood, during the lifetime of Peleg.
The founding of Babel and its founder, Nimrod, are briefly mentioned in Genesis 10:8-10. "And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar." Cush was a son of Ham (Genesis 10:6). The descendants of Ham were notorious for their rebellion against God by worshipping false gods.
The term 'mighty one' in Genesis 10:8 is translated from the Hebrew word (transliteration) 'gibbor.' It is the same word used in Genesis 6:4 regarding the offspring of the Nephilim and human women. "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
"The name Nimrod is not Hebrew, but it is a Semitic name and is therefore closely related to Hebrew. The name comes from the Semitic root מרד (MRD)meaning 'to rebel.' One final clue into the character and personality of Nimrod is how the Semitic root MRD has been used even into our own time. The Ancient Semitic root MRD (marad) is the origin of our words MaRauDer and MuRDer." {1} Definition of Hebrew Names: Nimrod | AHRC
There are many stories, myths, and legends about Nimrod, but none of them can be proven by Scripture or history. The only thing we can be certain of is the fact that he founded four cities in the land of Shinair and became a powerful king or ruler. He might have become the first dictator/despot over a large population. It is believed that Nimrod oversaw the construction of the Tower of Babel, a ziggurat-type structure that "reached into the heavens" (a very tall structure).
It is unknown what the structure was built for. Perhaps it was to show how great a people they were ("and let us make us a name"), so no one would dare try to invade them. Or it could have been a temple used to worship idols or false gods. Ziggurats were ancient pyramids that sought to connect heaven and earth, man and deity. Many scholars believe the people were not merely erecting a tall structure; they were trying to create a unified world under a single language, a single authority, and a single ideology. It is no coincidence that Babel, like Babylon,—a city that, in the Bible, collectively represents human pride, idolatry, and rebellion against God.
Over the ages, the name 'Nimrod' has been associated with someone who is dumb, probably because anybody who rebels against God is not very smart. I remember as a kid when I did something stupid, my dad would sometimes call me Nimrod. I wasn't aware of the Nimrod of the Bible at that time, but I was smart enough to associate the name with someone stupid or doing something stupid. If someone calls you 'Nimrod,' it is not a compliment.
Whatever Babel's purpose, the LORD did not approve of the tower or the city. The city was later rebuilt and would eventually be called Babylon.
"One of the most striking aspects of the Tower of Babel story is the emphasis on language. The people originally had one language and the same basic words. Their unity in speech enabled them to coordinate their efforts and aspire to greatness. But it also made them a threat. God’s response—to confuse their language—introduces not only divine intervention, but also the birth of linguistic diversity.
From a historical perspective, language has always been a tool of empire. The imposition of a single language over diverse peoples is a hallmark of centralized power. The Akkadian Empire, the Assyrians, the Persians, the Greeks, and later the Romans all promoted official languages to unify their realms. The biblical narrative reflects this reality, recognizing both the power of linguistic unity and the danger of its misuse.
But the confusion of language is not merely punitive. It is also a creative act. In scattering the people and multiplying their tongues, God introduces diversity, decentralization, and cultural pluralism. The Tower of Babel is not just the origin of different languages—it is the origin of nations, of unique worldviews, of the mosaic of human civilization." {2} The Real Story Behind the Tower of Babel.
God specifically told Noah and his sons to fill the whole earth. He knew if they massed together in one geographical area, the natural inclination of man's wickedness for power would eventually lead a 'mighty man' to take control of the masses and rule over them. God did not want the bulk of mankind after the flood to be governed by one man or king, as He knew that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely...unless you are God. Even Lucifer couldn't control his power and beauty and was corrupted (by his pride and arrogance) beyond redemption. He managed to convince one-third of the angels to follow him in his delusional bid for power. The masses are easily swayed by power.
The exception to the rule of 'not massing together' (and filling the earth) is when God made or allowed the conditions to be suitable for Jacob to relocate his family to Egypt. The Israelites spent several centuries in Egypt until Moses, under the guidance of the LORD, led them out of captivity. God allowed the Israelites to stay in Egypt, even as slaves for a lengthy time, so that they could become a nation and keep their unique ethnicity (race, language, nationality, and culture) intact. During these centuries, the Israelites mostly married within their own ethnicity.
God chose Abraham (the great, great, great grandson of Peleg) to be the father of the nation that He chose above all others. During the evening of the LORD's covenant with Abraham, He told him, "Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full" (Genesis 15:13, 16). Abraham and his descendants lived in the land of Canaan and later Egypt as "strangers in a land that was not theirs" for four centuries.
After wandering in the desert for 40 years, just before the Israelites entered the Promised Land, the LORD told Moses and the Israelites, "For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt" (Deuteronomy 7:6-8).
The children of Israel entered Egypt as a small family clan but left Egypt as a nation. The Lord wanted to keep the family together (by whatever means necessary), so they could multiply, stay together, and become a nation. God did not want them wandering the earth and settling in different locations. It took several centuries for the Hebrew clan to become a nation. When the time was ripe, the Lord sent Moses and Aaron to contend with Pharaoh for the release of their people. After ten supernatural plagues from God, Pharaoh relented, acknowledged Yahweh's power and superiority, and released the Hebrew people. Here is how Jack Kelley explains the beginning of nations in Genesis 10 & 11.
"In Genesis 10, we’re given an overview of the descendants of Noah’s three sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth) and how they grew to become 70 distinct people groups (nations) after they were scattered. Today, the UN recognizes over 200 nations, but all people on Earth are descended from these three brothers. Originally, everyone spoke the same language.
When God scattered the people, he did it by giving each people group a unique language, making it impossible for any of the families of the three brothers to understand any of the others’ languages (Genesis 11:7). This created mistrust and caused them to separate. God put it into their hearts to continue roaming until there were great distances between them. Initially, no oceans impeded their wandering, so they kept going until they were scattered all over the single land mass. God further isolated them by breaking the land mass up into the continents we see today.
This forced people who spoke the same language to marry only among themselves. Their dominant traits became more so. For instance, Ham's name means dark, as if sunburned. He named one of his sons Cush, which is the Hebrew word for black. Cush is the father of the black African races. Another son, Mizraim, founded both Upper and Lower Egypt. Shem is the father of the Arabs and Jews. Japheth is the father of the Europeans and Russians. The Chinese are most likely descended from the Sinites, a branch of the Canaanites whose father was Ham. Recently conducted DNA studies show that the American Indians are descended from the people of Eastern Asia. Genetic science has shown that all the races we know today could have begun to show distinguishing characteristics within a relatively few generations. But it all began with Noah’s three sons." {3} Did We All Come From Noah's Sons? – Grace thru faith.
Throughout the millennia, there have been various nations or kingdoms that have conquered and ruled over large portions of the earth. The British Empire and Mongol Empire were the largest and second-largest empires in history, respectively. It is estimated that the British Empire controlled approximately 26.35% of the Earth's land mass at one time, while the Mongol Empire controlled about 17.81% at one time. No one nation or person has controlled or ruled over the entire population of the Earth since Nimrod. However, the Bible prophecies about a future ruler who will reign over the entire world during the end times before Jesus returns.
THE BEAST OF THE FOURTH KINGDOM
This world emperor or king and his one world kingdom are first mentioned in the Old Testament in Daniel 7. "Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time" (Daniel 7:23-25).
The Rapture of the Church will cause chaos upon the Earth. Scripture indicates that after the ensuing chaos, ten kings (or rulers) will emerge to form a kingdom that will include the whole earth. Some scholars believe there will initially be ten regions (aka kingdoms) that the ten kings will independently govern. After a time, another 'mighty one' shall arise and subdue three of the ten kings.
At the midpoint of the seven-year Tribulation, the ten kings shall hand over their power and authority to the 'beast' (the Antichrist). "And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast" (Revelation 17:12-13 - ESV).
In the New Testament, this beastly king is first described in Revelation 13. "And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations" (Revelation 13:4-5,7).
Of course, we know the dragon who gives power to the Beast is Satan. According to Revelation 12:7-17, Satan and his evil angels will be cast to the Earth at the mid-point of the seven-year Tribulation. "Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he hath but a short time" (Revelation 12:12).
Daniel 7:25 stipulates the beast's absolute power will only last for 3.5 years. These 3.5 years are called the Great Tribulation in Matthew 24:21-22. "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved." Revelation 13:5 concurs with the duration of the Antichrist's absolute reign; only John the Revelator breaks it down into 42 months. "And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months."
However, at the beginning of the ten kings' reign (approximately 3.5 years before the Great Tribulation), the Antichrist must be in a position of sufficient authority to confirm or strengthen the covenant of Daniel 9:27. "And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and in the midst of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator." Of course, the 'one week' refers to seven years, which is the duration of the Tribulation.
THE ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT
I believe that after the chaos the Rapture causes, including the demise of the United States as a superpower, the United Nations will accelerate its Agenda 2030 project. The global elites, determined to bring in a New World Order, seem fixated on the year 2030. The United Nations has set a deadline for achieving its 'Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development' by 2030. Agenda 2030 for S.D. outlines 17 goals to address all of the world’s problems under the leadership of the unelected officials of the United Nations. All nations must follow their guidelines to bring this new utopia upon the Earth.
All members will be required to submit to the authority of the United Nations' one-world government. The United Nations initiated the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in 2015. They had a fifteen-year plan and are now just five years from their deadline.
If the Rapture occurs soon, the United Nations plan for a one-world government will be implemented before its deadline of 2030. If the Rapture is delayed by several more years, the U.N. will probably meet its 2030 deadline. Personally, I believe 2030 is more in line with the "in the midst" event of Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15-16, and 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.
However, some nations, not working in concert with the U.N., will see this as an opportunity to invade Israel to plunder her wealth, and of course, for their hatred of the Jewish people and nation. They will attempt to exterminate the Jewish nation and people. This is what we see in the coalition of nations that come against Israel in Ezekiel 38-39, known as the Gog-Magog War. This coalition, consisting of Russia, Turkey, Iran, and various Muslim countries, will swiftly be decimated by the LORD. After this war, the United Nations will be replaced by the ten kings' kingdom (IMO), and it will govern the whole world. All of these end-time events could be accomplished in months rather than years, due to the Holy Spirit (at the Rapture), in His role as the 'Restrainer,' being restricted from restraining evil.
THE TEN KINGS AND THE ANTICHRIST
After the Gog/Magog War, Israel will believe they are safe from their enemies and will make a pact with the Antichrist and the many. As I mentioned earlier, the Antichrist must be in a position of sufficient authority and power within the 'ten kings kingdom' to confirm the covenant with Israel and the many. Israel will finally accept the two-state solution and will give up some of their land to the 'Palestinians.' In return, the ten kings will allow the Jews to build the "third temple' in Jerusalem on the grounds of the Temple Mount.
This covenant with the many is a covenant with death, as described in Isaiah 28:15-20. "And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it" (Isaiah 28:15-20). This covenant will greatly anger God and cause Daniel's 70th week (per Daniel 9:27) to commence. It is at this point in time that the opening of the first seal (per Revelation 6:1), the first of 21 judgments from God against mankind, occurs. "And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer" (Revelation 6:2). The Antichrist rides forth to battle against the nations that do not relinquish their sovereignty to the ten kings.
It is at the mid-point of Daniel's 70th week when the Antichrist subdues three of the ten kings, and they relinquish their power and authority to him so that he becomes the sole ruler of the whole Earth. His true intentions will be made manifest at this time when he fulfills the prophecy of 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."
This is also when the Antichrist fulfills the prophecy of Daniel 9:27 and commits the abomination of desolation as recorded in Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, and Daniel 12:11. The Antichrist's reign as King of the World will only last for 3.5 years as stipulated by Daniel 12:7, "And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that lives forever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished."
The Antichrist's short reign as king of the world will end abruptly and devastatingly by the true LORD of Lords and KING of kings. "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming" (2 Thessalonians 2:8).
"And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone" (Revelation 19:19-20).
The Antichrist and the False Prophet will be 'Nimrods' in the whole scheme of things. How stupid can you be? Don't they know you can't rebel against the will and word of God and get away with it for long? "How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said,' Vengeance is mine; I will repay.' It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."(Hebrews 10:29-31).
Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
