Four score and nineteen years ago our great-grandparents, elected president a man who would set this nation’s course on an unavoidable path toward fiscal and political ruin. We as a nation are still reeling from the actions of Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) who in his two terms of office irrevocably transformed this nation.
He not only gave us a European-styled central banking system (Federal Reserve), but he campaigned for his second presidential term on the premise that he had kept our boys out of the European war. After he was re-elected in 1916, he promptly put our troops into the war from 1917-1918 (at a tiny cost of 116,000+ US military lives) just so we could have a seat at the global bargaining table after the war ended. The net result being the creation of the impotent League of Nations that subsequently helped set the stage for a Second World War.
Fast-forward thru fourteen boom and bust years, and we come to a man our grandparents elected as president. He ran on a democratic platform of federally fund handouts called the “New Deal”. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s socialistic ideations of spreading the wealth would create an entitlement society so large that today; Social Security is the world’s single largest government expenditure. It has also sucked the life out any hope of financial recovery.
The old phrase used to be ‘the sun never set on the British Empire’, but by the end of World War II, the sun did set for them and it left the United States as the last man standing. Europe was in shambles and it was at that pivotal moment in history, where the United States (with a Christian President) recognized the fledgling nation of Israel. Europe wouldn’t oppose it, because of their Holocaust guilt. The Arabs were not yet powerful enough to sway America’s opinion with oil and terrorism. FDR had at an earlier time, conceded to the Arabs about the issue, and would have opposed it, but he died of a sudden stroke in 1945 leaving the reigns to Harry Truman.
To summarize: we have an expensive and devastating addiction to taxpayer-funded entitlements, one half of the population who pay taxes…subsidizing the other half who do not, a war-weary military, leaders who want to lead from behind, and an apathetic public who cares more about being entertained and comfortable…rather than fixing our state of our nation.
It’s not a popular message, but we are now watching the sun set on us.
At the turn of the 20th Century when the British Empire (Pax Britannica) ruled the then known world, the United States was still an up-and-coming nation playing second fiddle to her royal majesty the Queen. We were still a relatively young nation compared to the old and dying European dynasties. We were comfortable with a small army, small navy, and a fledgling air force because we felt that we could live and let live. Political and economic isolationism was a popular stance back then, considering our geographical location of being sandwiched between two giant oceans.
Both Wilson and Roosevelt were ideological progressives, and both fundamentally weakened this nation because they believed that a bigger government was the solution for what ailed the people.
The problem with that kind of thinking is that they truly believed that more government regulation could curb the human appetite. This is akin to thinking that a chain-link fence will make a dog not want to get out and chase small furry animals. To the dog, a fence is merely an obstacle, and where there is a will, there is a way…as many dog owners will attest to. And as society continues its downward spiral into the moral morass, increasingly more regulations are required to keep a society in check.
American Christendom in the 1940s and ’50s was dominated by Protestant denominations that were becoming increasingly more liberal. European relativism and socialism had crept into the pulpits over the previous 50 years and a grammatical, literal, historical understanding of the Bible was taking a back seat to unbridled Capitalism and Americanism.
So on the one hand; we had seminaries pumping out young liberalized pastors who were complicit in making the church more and more irrelevant. On the other hand, we had a post-war boom in the economy that placed its faith in the almighty dollar. A chasm was building between the haves and the have-nots, which would be exploited in the riotous 1960s and 70s.
Admittedly, I’m painting with a broad brush here, but I’m speaking in general terms of the society at large then. As the society's moral compass began to break down, legislative regulation had to be constructed to protect or deny the growing pockets of ‘aberrant’ behavior groups until they became majorities in the urban areas they lived in.
What was considered deviant behavior in one decade became the norm in the next. This has been going on now for several decades and we are now the most regulated people on the planet. And so we have been a nation at war…a 50-year cultural civil-war who is simultaneously trying to lead the rest of the nations on this planet.
Since World War II, we have assumed the role of temporary custodial managers of this planet in terms of relegating the global terms of peace and security. If certain nations got out of line, we could either send in the troops or we could manipulate the diplomatic and economic channels to ensure those nations felt our financial and political wrath. But when we as a nation turned our back on God, we traded that moral compass for political correctness, and lunacy ensued.
And when we did that, we ended up betraying our own self-interest, in favor of ones that conflict with our own national well-being. And because we have so many conflicting interests, our economic and diplomatic sanctions went from being a powerful Billy club…to a whiffle-ball bat.
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a Mormon who has very close, personal ties with Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu. And seeing as there has been a recent push within and without the Evangelical world to accept Mormons as Christians when they are clearly not, it would seem that they have a different perspective of just who the ‘true Jews’ really are and ultimately what his intentions will be with Israel. *Hey, don’t they believe they’ll become a god one day? And unless he would be willing to risk his own political future by introducing some severe austerity measures to protect our nation from an economic collapse, he too will be as unsuccessful as the last two presidents.
The American people will not stand for austerity measures such as gutting welfare, social security, Medicaid, and Medicare. Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan’s fiscal plan was ripped to shreds as cruel and heartless, and it doesn’t even fix anything until 2040! Personally, I think Romney’s win will be a knee-jerk reaction by a frightened public, just as Obama’s win was a knee-jerk reaction from a disillusioned public. We are still moving forward on this progressive path towards constitutional insolvency, but we change leaders every few years for the purpose of pretense.
Tying it Up
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabbath. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. James 5:1-6 NKJV
God used our national destiny to become the world’s first super-power as a vehicle to spread the Gospel and be a temporary guardian for protecting Israel as she reentered the table of nations after a 2,000-year Diaspora. We were blessed because we blessed Israel. Before Israel became a nation, we were a safe haven for the Jews.
After she became a nation, we became a stalwart ally of hers’ who threatened to whoop anyone who messed with her. Think about it this way…the world’s most powerful nation EVER was a Christian nation (Emphasis on the word ‘was’).
Ultimately, our nation (like the rest of the world) will one day come against Israel. But even today, we see this prophecy finding fulfillment.
It will be incremental, antagonistic baby steps away from our ally Israel, by ungodly leaders, elected by an increasingly ungodly population. This doesn’t happen overnight, but by decades of conditioning by the god of this age. By the time the nations come against Israel, the last bit of restraint this world has (the Church) will be gone and the world will have fallen under the sway of a one-world system bent on the destruction of Israel.
A new global financial system will be necessary to calm the world’s jittery economic nerves.
Once we step away from our Constitutional protections, the slippery slope toward political ecumenicalism will erode our national history and identity to the point of irrelevancy, just as spiritual ecumenicalism does to religions. But do not hurt the oil or the wine will be the cry of the people because being comfortable is more important than some outdated Constitution…not knowing they are fulfilling the prophetic scriptures of the very Bible they hate so much. Our real problem isn’t one of financial insolvency, but spiritual bankruptcy.
But fear not believer, because the Bible has already told us these days would come, and ours is not a destiny of fear, but of hope. Our Lord’s instruction was to ‘look up’ when these begin to happen…
Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. James 5:7-8
