I am very excited to announce that after eight years, I finally got my first fiction book published on Kindle.

As I noted in the introduction to the book, I began writing this during my second Afghanistan deployment back in 2013. I remember walking across the base there at Kandahar Airfield (KAF) after my shift one evening, and I wondered what we would do if this place ever got overrun. I went back to my room that night and began crafting an outline for the story that largely hadn't changed from then, until now.
For all intent and purposes, I finished writing the story in the fall of 2019, at which point, I began sending out the manuscript to friends and family to get opinions, as well as to various publishing companies. But, since I was a first-time book author, with no famous people endorsing me, I wasn't finding a lot of success. Granted, I could have gone through a vanity-press (i.e., the charge you to publish a book), but being out of a job (thanks Covid), and all of my other commitments to job hunting, family, bills, etc., I had neither the time nor the inclination to go that route.
Between then and now, I began the process of editing, organizing, and doing everything I could to get the book ready for publishing, whenever that would happen. Needless to say, the Lord has in recent months, impressed upon me to get this book published sooner, rather than later. I (like most of you) had no idea the events in Afghanistan would play out the way they did this past August.
For those who have asked about the picture (the skull wheat penny), it (along with the title) is tied into the running narrative of the book itself. Now, the book itself sort of fits into several genres.
Military fiction
Dystopian
Christian Apocalyptic fiction
Action/adventure
Inspirational
If that is the sort of reading you like, then this is the book for you.
Granted, like Left Behind or any other work of Christian fiction, you sort of weave multiple storylines into the main thread. With fiction, you take liberties with certain things (like the gap of time between the Rapture and the 70th Week for instance), but I promise you, I have not compromised any of the core biblical doctrines. If you've read my articles (non-fiction) then you know the sort of way my mind thinks.
I can say writing fiction was a whole new experience that I found very difficult at first but came to really enjoy toward the end. I hope you enjoy the book if you end up buying or reading it. If I could ask for some positive reviews that would be greatly beneficial, as well as sharing it with your friends (saved and non-saved). I am currently working on a print version of this (i.e. paperback). I am still working on the cover illustration, so as soon as I get that paid for, I will also make that available as well.
Lastly, if you've ever donated to this ministry, I will get you an autographed version of the print book as soon as possible. I have your names, but will one day be asking for your address to mail the book to. Thank you, and Lord Bless.
P.S. My first attempt at fiction- be gentle! Lol

Just finished reading and couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the fast pace and the story line that is inspired by your experiences and our current world.
Pete, your tag line for the article seems to imply that this has taken some time and effort to finish. I think it is God's perfect timing at work that it is done when He says it is done.
Great job. Do you see a follow on coming?

Just bought the Kindle version. I know I will like it as I read all of your articles you publish here. Congratulations on your first book and may God bless you!
I bought the kindle addition, just started reading a little late last night. Can’t wait to get into it!👍🏻
The version I read prior to print was very good. Excited to get a paperback version too and to read how it ends!
